3 Tips for Personalizing
Your Engagement Session

You’ve said “yes” and your wedding planning journey has officially begun! One fun task to check off your list is taking engagement photos. Whether just for you and your partner to remember the start of this exciting new chapter or to use for save the dates or invitations, taking engagement photos can help you get familiar with your photographer and being in front of the camera. For the most meaningful experience, here are my top 3 tips for personalizing your engagement session, as demonstrated by Elysia and Ben at their photoshoot!

What do you and your partner enjoy doing together? For Elysia and Ben, they love playing cards! Bringing a prop, just as with sharing a drink, takes the pressure off of feeling like you have to “pose” in front of a camera. This makes for extra special images because you’ll have photo evidence of real things you love doing together!

Please! Please! Please! Your four legged family members are always welcome in front of my camera! Just be sure to enlist the help of a friend to watch them or keep them somewhere safe once their moment in the spotlight is over.

Whether it’s coffee, boba tea, or something a little stronger, I love encouraging my couples to start their engagement session with a toast. This can help set a celebratory tone. A common concern if you’re not used to being in front of the camera is “what do I do with my hands?”… and this solves that concern wonderfully. I’ve found this to be a stress free way to ease into getting your photo taken!

1. Grab a drink

2. Bring a prop

3. Include your fur babies
